When I saw this sign at the backgate (facing the public park), it can drop off anytime. It was previously fastened by double sided tape but now, hold up by a wire-string. Why the MA or security are not taking any action? I think they don't even know about it since they are not making any routine rounds to check for any abnormalities. Do we need to look so cheapo???

Interesting news happened at Peony Mansion.

URA investigating planning infringements involving Peony Mansion
By Shaffiq Alkhatib/Mustafa Shafawi | Posted: 18 March 2010 1418 hrs

Peony Mansion

SINGAPORE: The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said it is investigating if there are any planning infringements involving Peony Mansion along Bencoolen Street, in response to queries from MediaCorp.

A tenant had said rooms in the nine-storey building are available for rent for about S$25 a night.

The building was in the news recently. A Philippine national was found dead with stab wounds early on Monday morning in one of the fifth floor units.

URA said it has not received applications for residential units in the apartment building to be converted as a boarding house. It said appropriate enforcement action will be taken if necessary. An enforcement notice may be served on the owner and/or the persons responsible.

If they do not comply, and stop the unauthorised use, the owner or the persons responsible may be charged in court. If convicted, they may be fined up to S$200,000 or imprisoned for a term of up to 12 months, or both. If the offence continues after conviction, a fine of up to S$10,000 per day may be imposed.

Peony Mansion was built in the 1960s. It can be used as a hotel or boarding house as the site is within the Bencoolen Street area, where there are a number of hotels and boarding houses.

However, URA said planning approval must first be obtained to convert the existing residential units. The conversion would also have to be done on an entire floor or entire building basis.

Hi Wong, I do agreed that URA should check every unit. However, we should also work hand in hand with neighbours to play our important role as a resident Very Happy
